Twenty years ago this year, Savage rifles got a major upgrade. It wasn’t the introduction of carbon-fiber wrapped barrels, AccuStock, or the adjustability provided by AccuFit’s varied length of pull. The change was smaller—but much bigger: AccuTrigger.

AccuTrigger is an adjustable trigger with a clean, crisp pull with no creep.

While the Model 110 has been constantly evolving since its introduction in 1956, 2003 marked a major leap forward. That’s when Savage set out to redefine what was possible from a factory rifle’s trigger. The result, AccuTrigger, remains as revolutionary today as it was two decades ago when it made its debut.

Most triggers of the era—some of which were really good—had an inherent flaw. If the firearm’s safety was off, the sear could be knocked free of the trigger with a sharp blow. If there was a round in the chamber, such accidents could prove catastrophic. Firearms were safe, but that safe state was dependent on our ability to keep the safety engaged.

AccuTrigger provides an extra measure of insurance. The steel blade in the trigger shoe is known as AccuRelease. This is a lever that—when at rest—completely blocks the path of the sear. Even if the safety is off, the gun won’t fire unless the AccuRelease is depressed, fully.

Even the best triggers in 2003 had only one available pull weight. Gunsmiths across the country specialized in tuning and polishing triggers. Some could lighten their pulls, though such changes were often permanent. And lighter triggers were even easier to jar from their sears, so most companies simply accepted that a stout trigger pull was the nature of the beast.

AccuTrigger is an adjustable trigger. The pull weight can be dialed down as low as 1.5 pounds. This is ideal for long-range accuracy and the light weight is backed up by the protection of the AccuRelease. For those that carry their Savage rifles, as many of us do when we hunt, the weight can be dialed up to as much as 6 pounds.

And the best part—these adjustments can be made by the user, without the need of an armorer or a gunsmith. The weight of the pull can be dialed up or down to suit the circumstances. AccuTrigger provides an added layer of safety, even when the safety is off.

It is easy to see why Savage rifles continue to top critics’ lists for the most accurate production model rifles available. No other rifle comes close to providing the user the ability to custom fit their guns and tune their triggers without making permanent alterations to their rifles.

These days, you’ll find AccuTrigger on a wide selection of Savage firearms. From the rimfires we rely on to teach the fundamentals, to the first American-made straight-pull rifle, AccuTrigger is there, defining each and every pull with a crisp, clean break at the perfect weight. Offered in over 200 models, AccuTrigger is the technology that spawned a wave of performance innovation in Savage.
