How to Adjust the Axis II Precision Stock

The ability to adjust the stocks on Savage’s precision rifles is a great innovation. Length of pull and the height of one’s cheek piece are all essential to finding proper fit. The better a rifle fits a shooter, the more accurate and comfortable they will be. This step-by-step guide will show you how to adjust the Axis II Precision stock to fine tune the length of pull and comb height.

WARNING! Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Make sure your firearm is completely unloaded and ensure that your workspace is void of ammunition at all times. The safety should be set to the Full Safe position.

HOW TO ADJUST AXIS II PRECISION STOCK

  1. Place the safety selector into the full safe position. 
  2. Remove the magazine and open the bolt.
  3. Using a 5/32 allen wrench, loosen the two rear buttpad screws at least ½ inch (They do not need to be fully removed).How to Adjust the Axis II Precision Stock Screws
  4. Once the screws are loosened, slide the buttpad backwards and move a spacer to the middle of the exposed screws.How to Adjust Axis II Precision Stock
  5. Twist the spacer and the slots in it will allow it to be removed.
  6. To reinstall a spacer, line the screw shafts up with the slots and the spacer can be twisted back into position.
  7. Please be aware that the spacers are contoured to the stock shape and make sure you do not reinstall them upside down or backwards.
  8. The alignment tabs on the spacers should project toward the front of the firearm and will mate securely together.
  9. Once the desired length has been achieved, push the buttpad back snug against the rest of the stock assembly, and retighten the buttpad screws, taking care not to overtighten them.
  10. If shortening the stock (removing spacers), the shorter buttpad screw (included with your literature kit) MUST be installed in place of the top buttpad screw.

  11. Failure to do so will result in the screw bottoming out prematurely and can damage the stock assembly.  
  12. This is only relevant to the top screw, the bottom screw has more internal clearance and can be tightened fully without issue.

HOW TO ADJUST THE AXIS II PRECISION CHEEK PIECE

  1. To adjust the AXIS II Precision cheek piece, use a 1/8” Allen wrench to loosen the plug screws that hold the cheek piece in place.How to Adjust the Axis II Precision Cheek Piece
  2. Then, while holding the cheek piece at the desired height, retighten the screws.
