When we introduced the Stance XR, we didn’t just deliver another micro-compact pistol—we brought a game-changing feature that makes optics mounting faster and easier than ever. Enter the Quick Release Optics (QRO) Plate, a revolutionary system that lets shooters seamlessly swap between optics and iron sights. The QRO system makes customization effortless, giving users the flexibility to adjust their setup on the fly.

What is the QRO Plate?

The QRO (Quick Release Optics) Plate is a mounting system designed for the Savage Stance XR, allowing users to attach or remove an optic quickly without losing zero. Unlike traditional optics mounting methods that require screws and extra tools, the QRO system uses a dual dovetail design with a spring-mounted lockup. This means precise, repeatable placement every time you reattach your optic.

For those who prefer a more permanent setup, Savage includes a spacer that lets you remove the spring and secure the optic plate with screws. Either way, the QRO plate ensures a seamless, secure, and user-friendly experience.

Why Did Savage Develop the QRO Plate?

Optics on handguns have become increasingly popular in both concealed carry and competition shooting. While they offer improved accuracy and faster target acquisition, mounting and swapping optics can be a hassle—especially when it involves tiny screws, Loctite, and the constant worry about losing zero. Savage’s QRO system was designed to eliminate these frustrations by offering a fast, tool-free solution.

The result? A clean, flush-fitting mounting system with no external screws, preserving the sleek profile of the Stance XR slide. Whether you want to remove your optic for maintenance or switch back to iron sights, the QRO plate makes it effortless.

How Does the QRO System Work?

The QRO system operates on a dual dovetail rail with a spring-loaded locking mechanism. This design ensures a snug, repeatable fit that returns to zero each time you reinstall your optic. The dovetail rails guide the plate into position, while the spring lock holds it securely in place.

For those who want to lock the plate down permanently, the included spacer replaces the spring, converting the QRO into a more traditional, screw-in optics mount.

How to Install and Use the QRO Plate

Before working with your QRO plate, remember to follow the rules of gun safety at all times. Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Make sure your firearm is completely unloaded and keep your workspace clear of ammunition. Always wear safety glasses because some parts are under spring tension.

How to Disassemble and Reassemble Stance

Mounting an Optic to the QRO Plate

  1. Choose the correct plate for your optic’s footprint (currently available for SMSc and RMSc to cover the majority of compact pistol optics).

  2. Align the optic with the built-in alignment tabs on the plate.

  3. Secure the optic to the plate using the manufacturer’s recommended screws (do not exceed 8 in./lbs. of torque). A small amount of removable thread-locking compound can be used for added security.

  4. Ensure that the screws do not protrude through the bottom of the plate.

Attaching the QRO Plate to the Stance XR

  1. Ensure your firearm is unloaded and safe

  2. Remove the slide from the frame or lock it back.

  3. With the optic plate positioned on either side of the slide, align the dovetail cuts with the slide’s corresponding rails.

  4. Press the plate onto the rails until it meets the plate lock.

  5. While holding the slide, use a small punch or hex wrench to press the QRO Release Button.

  6. While holding the button in, push the plate further until it centers on the slide.

  7. Release the QRO button to lock the plate in place.

Removing the QRO Plate

  1. Ensure your firearm is unloaded and safe.

  2. Remove the slide from the frame or lock it back.

  3. Press the QRO Release Button with a small punch or hex wrench.

  4. While holding the button in, push the plate to either side until it clears the lock, then slide it off completely.

Swapping the QRO Release Style

  1. Ensure your firearm is unloaded and safe.

  2. Remove the slide from the frame or lock it back.

  3. Remove the optic plate by pressing the QRO Release Button with a small punch or hex wrench and sliding the plate until it clears the lock.

  4. Use a 5/64” hex wrench to carefully turn the QRO Release counterclockwise and remove the QRO Release and Spring.

  5. Replace the Spring with the Spacer (included with the packing kit) and reinstall the QRO Release, tightening it to 5 in./lbs with a 5/64” hex wrench. A very small amount of low-strength, removable thread-locking compound may be used on the QRO Release.

  6. If switching back to the Push Button System, remove the Spacer, reinstall the Spring, and secure the QRO Release as before.

  7. If the Plate Lock comes out of the slide, ensure that it is replaced into the slide with the lock tabs facing upwards and the threaded hole facing the rear of the slide.

Why the QRO System Stands Out

The QRO Plate isn’t just about convenience; it’s a game-changer for handgun optics. Here’s why it stands out:

  • Quick and easy optic swaps – No more fumbling with screws and torque specs.

  • Reliable return to zero – Reattach your optic without losing your zero.

  • Flush-fit design – Maintains the sleek look of the Stance XR with no exposed screws.

  • Versatility – Choose between quick-release or fixed-mount configurations.
