Traveling AccuFit: Public Land Pronghorn Hunt | Buffalo, WY

Hunting buddies, Marty Hogan (25) and Miles Fitzsimmons (26), head west to the Cowboy State with the Traveling AccuFit to chase mule deer and North America’s fastest land animal in a high stake, multiple species hunt, with non-resident tags. Over this three-day adventure, the two friends find success and failure as they miss shots, blow stalks, and learn what it takes to harvest a mature pronghorn buck.
Having rarely encountered mule deer and having never hunted pronghorn antelope, this public land hunt was a challenge for these season hunters. Pronghorn antelope have eyesight comparable to 8x binoculars, so Marty and Miles knew they would need to stalk carefully and quickly learned from their mistakes early on.
“You can know everything there is to know about hunting deer, but if you want to hunt a different species… there’s going to be some mistakes made, there’s going to be some new challenges. You don’t know what you don’t know, and a lot of times you have to learn the hard way,” says Marty.
Marty and Miles push the Traveling AccuFit to its limits in open country with different-sized hunters. After Miles harvested a mule deer, the pair went back to camp to adjust the Savage AccuFit to fit Marty. After adjusting it and quickly verifying the zero, Marty and Miles head back out into the field so Marty could fill his antelope tag. “Marty has a couple of inches on me, so, if we didn’t have the AccuFit system, I’m not sure we would have been able to use the same rifle, let alone be accurate with it,” stated Miles. “I loved the 110 Long Range Hunter so much, I bought one the following week we got back!” says Miles.
This was an adventure and memory that will stick with these two friends long into their old age.
