A rifle can only be as accurate as the connection between its stock and action. If the connection between the action of the stock is not solid it will allow movement between the action and reducing accuracy. This is caused by the changes in the harmonics as the action shifts. Typically, an action is secured by just one or two action screws that pull it directly downward into the stock. But the Savage AccuStock is different.

Savage’s AccuStock

Introduced in 2009, the Savage AccuStock is a performance innovation that is standing the test of time by creating incorporating accuracy features directly into the rifle. Instead of securing the action with action screws alone, the AccuStock connects the action using a rigid aluminum chassis permanently embedded in the stock throughout the length of the action and the forend. 

Rather than engaging the action from a single direction, the AccuStock engages it three-dimensionally along its entire length. As the screws are tightened, the action is wedged between the sides of the chassis. The action screws provide vertical pressure, like in traditional actions. Additionally, the AccuStock’s pre-stressed side rails apply horizontal pressure. A steel block incorporated into the bottom of the chassis engages the rifle’s recoil lug, which prevents the action from shifting forward and backward. The action screws, pre-stressed side rails and steel block all working together create a more stable and accurate shooting experience. This perfect union between the action and chassis results in increased resistance to torque, heat, and recoil.

Plus, the AccuStock is far superior to glass bedding used by custom gunsmiths to reinforce traditional actions by using the pre-stressed side rails to actively lock the action into the stock from all three dimensions eliminating any play between the stock and action. The AccuStock also runs the length of the forend to eliminate any flex when loading the front of the stock with a bipod or shooting rest.
