110 Upgraded: Discussing the New 110 Bolt Face
The new Model 110 has gotten quite the facelift on the outside. New stocks, colors, camos, and finishes are all quite different from what you may have seen in the past. However, one of the biggest changes is the new Model 110 bolt. We’ve made some big improvements to the bolt, including a new bolt face, adding threaded bolt handles, and adding Cerakote finishes to some bolt bodies. Let’s break down the bolt changes at the heart of the new Model 110, and how these changes will help improve your performance and experience with these rifles.
Making the Change
The new Model 110 has been a years-long effort of research, design, updates, and feedback. We’re always looking for ways to improve our rifles in every area, and the smoothness and performance of our rifles is always an area we look at. Our team of engineers went to work and designed a new bolt face that would help make the Model 110 more reliable, easier to use, and smoother.
One of the main motivations behind the new 110 bolt design was also customer feedback on feeding, ejection, and overall smoothness. We’ve heard your feedback loud and clear, and it was a main driver behind the new bolt design. The new bolt was built in conjunction with an updated magazine and machining improvements to the 110 action, all of which help improve smoothness, feeding, and ejection.
Dual Ejectors
The new 110 bolt adds an additional spring-loaded ejector alongside the existing ejector, and this dual ejector design helps your rifle’s performance in more ways than one. Ejection is stronger, with more ejection force acting on the cartridge casing that leads to better and more predictable ejection. What you may not think of with dual ejectors, however, is the impact on feeding.
With dual ejectors, there are three points of contact on the case head. When you go to push your bolt in and load a cartridge, the three points of contact create a stronger, more balanced connection that helps to hold your cartridge in place and prevent it from nosediving or turning up in your chamber. The result is smoother, more reliable feeding that is consistent for every round.
New Extractor Design
Along with dual ejectors, the extractor design in the new 110 bolt has been updated. This new design uses an extractor that has a rounded shape that aligns with the edge of the bolt face. This radius extractor creates more contact with the case head by matching up to and making full contact with the side of the case head, rather than sitting perpendicular to the case head and only making partial contact.
This design helps hold the cartridge more securely, helping make not only extraction more reliable, but also aiding the ejectors and magazine in making feeding more reliable. This combination of better extraction and stronger ejection will help empty casings not hang up coming out of the chamber and will allow the rifle to run smoother and faster.
V2? That’s New
You won’t just find the new 110 bolt design on our newest Model 110 rifles. You’ll also find it as an upgrade to some of our most popular existing models that we are rolling into the new product line! If you head over to the 110 Family page over at our website, you’ll notice several models with a “V2” designation, like the 110 Ultralite Elite V2, 110 KLYM V2, 110 Trail Hunter Lite V2, and 110 Scout V2. These “V2” models will now be made with the upgraded bolt, as well as being offered in a variety of new calibers. So when you see V2, you’ll know you’re getting the best bolt Savage has to offer!
The new 110 bolt helps make the next generation of the Model 110 the smoothest running 110 yet! From loading your cartridge to cycling for the next shot, the action is smoother, feeding is smoother, and extraction and ejection is reliable and consistent. When you have a new Model 110 on the range or in the field, you can be confident in smooth, reliable operation after every shot.
