How to Disassemble and Reassemble Stance with Manual Safety
Stance is the first in an all-new line of handguns from Savage and built to deliver the kind of modern performance and ease of ownership you’re looking for. Keeping your firearm clean is one of the easiest things to do to keep it properly functioning. But before you start to clean – you must first learn how to disassemble and assemble Stance with Manual Safety.
If you have a Stance without a manual safety, head over to How to Disassemble and Reassemble Stance and follow the steps listed there.
WARNING! Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Make sure your firearm is completely unloaded before attempting any field stripping or disassembly. Always wear safety glasses when field stripping or during disassembly/reassembly of your pistol.
How to Disassemble Stance with Manual Safety
- Ensure that the thumb safety is in the SAFE position.
- Press the magazine release and remove the magazine.
- Pull the slide fully rearward and press upward on the slide stop while letting the slide move slightly forward. This will lock the slide open.
- Ensure the chamber is empty and move the safety down into the FIRE position (if the safety is not in the FIRE position, the slide will not come off)
- Rotate the takedown lever clockwise 90-degrees. There is no need to press the trigger in order to remove the slide.
- Grasp the slide from the top and pull it slightly rearward to disengage the slide stop.
- Then push the slide forward to remove it.
*Take precaution to retain the recoil spring and guide rod assembly with your hand to avoid unintentional release of the recoil spring.* - Carefully remove the recoil guide rod and spring from the slide by pushing it towards the muzzle. With the spring compressed, carefully lift it out of the slide.
- Remove the barrel from the slide by pulling it up and to the rear.
How to Reassemble Stance with Manual Safety
- With the slide turned upside down, replace the barrel so that the muzzle is flush with the end of the slide. Ensure the barrel lug is facing upward.
- Insert the recoil guide rod spring assembly into the slide. Be sure it is centered and installed on the notch of the barrel lug. The steel recoil end cap must be seated on the barrel as pictured below, with the tabs in the top and bottom position.
If you have trouble with this step, it may help to use two fingers as a guide for the first spring. This helps keep the spring inline, allowing the inner rod to seat properly. - Place the rear of the slide onto the front frame rails. Move the slide rearward until it engages the rear frame rails. Push the slide to the rear and engage the slide stop.
- Rotate the takedown lever counterclockwise 90-degrees.
- Close the slide, activate the safety, and replace the magazine in the firearm.
- Check for proper functioning by pulling the slide back. The slide should lock open.
Safe firearm ownership is your responsibility. When something does not sound, feel, or look right, seek the advice of a professional gunsmith immediately.
