Savage Warranty and Lifetime Service Agreement
At Savage, we always strive to produce top quality, affordable rifles, shotguns, and handguns that are reliable for your everyday use. However, there are rare instances where your firearm needs to be sent in for service. If you’ve sent in a firearm before, you’re likely familiar with the Savage warranty and the process with our service team. Starting in 2026, we've added a new Lifetime Service Agreement in addition to our standard warranty. Let’s take a quick review of some preventative maintenance tips, the current Savage warranty, and this new Lifetime Service Agreement.
Preventative Maintenance
Just like with your car, preventative maintenance with your firearm is important to not only keep it in peak operating condition, but to also prevent potential issues down the line. A well cared for firearm is less likely to need repairs, and some repairs due to neglect won't be covered under your firearm's warranty and service agreement. Here are some basic cleaning and care steps you can take to ensure your firearm remains in good operating condition.
Remember: Always refer to your owner’s manual when cleaning your firearm. Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Make sure your firearm is completely unloaded and ensure that your workspace is void of ammunition at all times. The safety should be set to the Full Safe position. Wear eye protection.
- Unload the Firearm: Ensure the gun is unloaded and the chamber is clear. Double-check for safety.
- Disassemble: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to disassemble the firearm into its main components. Always refer to your owner’s manual.
- Clean the Barrel: Attach a bore brush to the cleaning rod, apply solvent, and run it through the barrel several times to loosen fouling. Follow with cleaning patches until they come out clean.
- Clean Other Components: Use the solvent and toothbrush to scrub the action, chamber, and other parts. Wipe down with clean patches or cloths.
- Lubricate: Apply a light coat of gun oil to moving parts and the barrel. Be sparing to avoid attracting debris.
- Reassemble and Inspect: Reassemble the firearm, ensuring all parts are properly fitted. Wipe down the exterior with a microfiber cloth to remove fingerprints and apply a thin layer of oil to prevent rust. Be sure to properly function test your firearm and its safeties to ensure that it is working properly after you reassemble.
- Store Properly: Store in a cool, dry place to avoid moisture buildup, which can lead to rust.
Regular cleaning keeps your firearm in optimal condition, ensuring reliability and safety each time you use it. Normal wear, tear, and corrosion aren't covered under the standard Savage warranty, so make sure to keep some of these tips in mind as well to prevent rust on your firearm.
- Controlled Environment: Store your firearms in a cool, dry place. A gun safe with a dehumidifier or silica gel packs can help maintain low humidity levels.
- Regular Maintenance: Clean and oil your firearms regularly. Use a quality gun oil to create a protective barrier against moisture.
- Protective Covers: Use gun socks or soft cases with moisture-wicking properties for additional protection when storing your firearms.
- Avoid Basements and Attics: These areas often have fluctuating temperatures and humidity levels, which can promote rust.
- Safe Positioning: Store firearms in an upright position if possible. This prevents oil from pooling in one area and ensures even protection.
- Avoid Foam-Lined Cases: Foam can hold moisture and storing your firearms in direct contact with a material with a high potential to create a humid environment can accelerate rust development.

Lifetime Service Agreement
While the standard Savage warranty only lists a one-year period from the purchase date of a firearm, our service team has gladly helped thousands of customers with issues beyond that period. It’s something that has been standard practice for our service team for a long time, so for 2026 we have put that practice into writing with our Limited Lifetime Service Agreement. Here’s what is included in that agreement.
LIMITED LIFETIME EXTENDED SERVICE AGREEMENT
Savage’s Limited Lifetime Extended Service Agreement starts after the one-year warranty ends. Savage Arms will repair, for the original registered owner, any Savage firearm that contains a defect in materials or workmanship. To take advantage of the Extended Service Agreement, the original owner must activate the agreement from the QR CODE included on a hang tag with the firearm within 30 days of purchase.
Savage’s Limited Lifetime Extended Service Agreement does not include wear and tear, cosmetic issues or faults created by abuse, misuse, failure to maintain or modification.
The Limited Lifetime Extended Service Agreement is separate from and not an extension of the initial one-year warranty.
Exclusions and Limitations
The disclaimer below applies to our standard Savage warranty and the Limited Lifetime Extended Service Agreement.
