You asked, and we listened. New for 2026, select AXIS rifles now feature the new adaptable stock. This stock design lets you change your Savage AXIS length of pull via a removable spacer, going from a full-size model to a compact model quickly and easily. Follow along to see how to swap out the spacer and change your Savage AXIS length of pull.

New Axis Features

The new adaptable stock is featured on all polymer stock AXIS models, including the AXIS 2, AXIS 2 XP, and AXIS 2 Pro. The AXIS XP will continue to have separate full-size and compact models, and the AXIS 2 XP Hardwood will continue to only feature the full-size hardwood stock models. With this spacer, length of pull can be set at 13.75" or 12.75". This change means new AXIS 2 models can be used by both adults and youth shooters, making these rifles great as starter rifles that can grow with a youth hunter or a good family rifle that anyone can take to the woods.

How to Change the Length of Pull

Let's review the step-by-step process on how to change your Savage AXIS length of pull with the new adaptable stock.

WARNING: Make sure the muzzle is pointed away from you in a safe direction. Ensure the safety is in the Full Safe position; the chamber is clear of ammunition, and the magazine is removed. Safety glasses should be worn during disassembly.

  1. Locate the two screw holes in the back of the recoil pad.
  2. Use a standard Phillips head screwdriver to remove the recoil pad screws.
  3. Remove the recoil pad and spacer from the stock.
  4. Insert the smaller screws (provided in the box) into the recoil pad.
  5. Install the recoil pad onto the stock using a standard Phillips head screwdriver.
