We joined the world in celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) earlier this year by shining a spotlight on women in the outdoors and those who make it a better place for all. We shared the stories and words of advice and encouragement of leaders, role models, mentors, mothers, sisters, and daughters to uplift and empower all the women who share the outdoors. We have met and gotten to know many more incredible women since March 2022, and we simply couldn’t wait until IWD 2023 to introduce you to more Women in the Outdoors! One of the women we are proud to call our friend at Savage is Keleah Brown. This is her story!

Keleah Brown

My husband and I own a media company offering videography services to the outdoor and 2A industry.

My advice for women in the outdoors: At first glance the outdoors and the outdoor industry can seem intimidating. There's so much to learn and so much to buy! My advice to women wanting to enter this space would be to take it one step at a time. Every step forward is progress and knowledge is amassed over time and through consistency. Use social media and your local groups to find other women with similar interests.

How I Got Started:  After a few months of binge watching YouTube videos, I started to connect with others in the outdoor industry and have made some amazing friends. Since the beginning of my journey, I have met some of the most amazing people who are always willing to share their knowledge with me, attend events, and enjoy time together. I've had instructors invite me to classes and be willing to provide me with additional training after the main class was over. I've also had my local community embrace me with range events, women's only classes, and family safety courses.

How I support other women: I'm constantly telling women that if they have an interest in the outdoors then they should explore it; life is short! Not only will you enjoy yourself and meet great people along the way, you'll also gain skills that are useful (survival and life skills). I have Instagram friends that I encouraged to join the outdoor community and now one of my friends has taken it really seriously and has started her hunting journey! I love watching her grow and flourish in the industry.

Why I’m proud to be a woman in the outdoors: I'm proud that I am self-resilient and I have skills that are life-saving/life-changing. I am able to contribute to my household through safety, preservation, and by teaching my sons what I've learned along the way. I am proud to be a representation for women like me who did not grow up in the outdoors but who found value in it during their adult years. I am happy to be on this journey with my entire household. Out of all of our accomplishments, we are most proud of the community that we have built around our brand. We have created and maintained genuine relationships with our clients, supporters, and industry partners. We are a brand of integrity, creativity, and dedication.
