Women in the Outdoors, the Adventure Continues...

In March 2022, we decided to join the world in celebrating International Women’s Day by shining a spotlight on some amazing women in the outdoors. The outdoors is filled with leaders, role models, mentors, mothers, sisters, daughters – and we wanted to share their stories, words of advice and encouragement for others.  It should not come as a shock to anyone that there are some incredible women who are actively making the outdoors better for everyone, simply by the virtue of their nature and sharing their passion.

It was a pretty consistent theme that came across from those we featured last March. The message that rang true was empowerment – to face challenges head-on, to lean in to each situation, and to encourage each other along the way. These women are changing the way women are perceived in the field, making their voice heard in the industry to develop products designed for women, and creating communities for like-minded women and mentors to hunt with.

We love knowing that hunters and shooters recognize the importance of mentorship, welcoming newbies into our corner of the world, and passing on knowledge obtained through practice and experience.  Is there anything better than watching a newcomer at the range shoot tighter groups or finally connect at a longer distance? Is there anything sweeter than celebrating a new hunter’s success? Truthfully, it may be bittersweet to commiserate with a new hunter on “the one that got away”, but thankful for their presence in camp, knowing that they’ll be back every year to chase that feeling…just like you are.

There are mentorship groups and organizations across the country and world tailored for every imaginable outdoor interest and at every skill level – waterfowl, deer, pheasants, self-defense, fishing, antelope, foraging, competitive shooting, elk, wild game cooking, you name it – it’s out there. Women in particular are tuned in to the needs of new hunters and shooters and undoubtedly, you’ll find an organization specifically geared for women. The reason there are so many outdoor women’s organizations is because at some point, there was at least one woman that was looking for connections with other women or mentors and didn’t find it…so she created the community herself. Maybe that will be you.

One of the coolest things about what we get to do at Savage is meet people from all parts of the world and all walks of life. It’s always a special thrill to invite someone new to camp or find a new friend at the range. And it’s not surprising that we have met a lot of interesting people, especially the women who step into a field traditionally dominated by men. It’s because of this that we simply could not wait until International Women’s Day 2023 to introduce you to more Women in the Outdoors! We want to uplift all the women who share the outdoors and invite others to join.

We’re proud to call all of these women our friends at Savage. They are inspirations to the community and doing incredible work in the outdoors. We’re thrilled to share their stories!
