Innovation has been the driving force behind Savage since the beginning. Starting with the revolutionary Model 1899 rifle and continuing over the next century with iconic firearms, including the venerable Model 110. For nearly 70 years, the Model 110 innovations have brought top-tier performance, accuracy, and precision to the masses.

Today’s Model 110 continues the legacy of the original Model 110, with the best out of the box accuracy and performance that you can get with a factory rifle. Not only has the performance kept up, but so has the feature set of this all-new line of 110 rifles. Let’s dive in with a little background on how the Model 110 has innovated throughout the years, and what the newly reimagined Model 110 brings to the table.

Original 110 Innovations

The first Model 110 innovations were key in helping bring superior accuracy at an affordable price, and they can still be found on 110 rifles today. They may not be the flashiest features, but they help make the 110 a rifle that has punched well above its weight for decades

Floating bolt head

On many firearm bolts, the bolt head is machined into the bolt body as one whole piece. On Model 110 rifles, the bolt head is a separate piece from the bolt body. This allows the bolt head to rotate, or float, ever so slightly whenever you are chambering a round. This provides perfect alignment between the bolt and the barrel every time you chamber a round, as the bolt can rotate itself into place and get into position to lock up perfectly in the chamber. This results in full engagement between the bolt head, locking lugs, and the cartridge face, resulting in improved accuracy.

Thread-in headspace control

If you’ve spent any time looking at Model 110 rifles, you’re likely familiar with the barrel nut. This unique feature serves an important purpose, and is one of the main Model 110 innovations. With the barrel nut, we are able to achieve ideal, zero tolerance headspace on every rifle with thread-in headspace control.

How does it work? We place a minimum headspace gauge in the chamber of a rifle with the barrel inserted into the chamber. The bolt is then closed on the headspace gauge, and the barrel nut is threaded onto the barrel and tightened. The headspace is verified by cycling the action and closing it on the gauge, and the result is a minimum headspace that provides extremely tight tolerances and enhances the accuracy of the rifle.

Button rifling

We used button rifling well before the Model 110, but it is an integral feature that has been a part of these rifles since the beginning. Button rifling is a quick, reliable way to rifle the bore and provide consistent results in accuracy across rifles. It is done by pulling a rifle button down the bore, which displaces material within the barrel and creates the rifled grooves as it passes down the barrel. This can typically be done in one pass and provides consistent grooves in the barrel won’t heat unevenly or cause the bullet to spin differently as it travels down the barrel.

AccuTrigger

One of the most consequential Model 110 innovations of the last 20 years is the AccuTrigger. First introduced in 2003, the AccuTrigger has provided crisp, reliable performance across the 110 line since its inception. What makes the AccuTrigger an industry standard trigger, even all these years later?

  • Adjustability: Adjustability is the name of the game when it comes to the AccuTrigger. A standard AccuTrigger is adjustable from 2.5 to 6 pounds, providing the ability for a light trigger pull for experienced target shooters, or a heavier pull for youth hunters to learn on. Precision AccuTriggers that come on select rifles feature even lower adjustability, down to 1.5 pounds of adjustment for an even lighter, more fine tuned trigger pull.
  • Safety: When developing the AccuTrigger, one of the first questions asked was how can the trigger be both light and effective, while also remaining safe to use? The answer is the safety blade found in the middle of the AccuTrigger, which must engage a sear in the trigger to allow the rifle to fire. The safety blade helps prevent accidental discharges, negligent discharges, and also helps keep the Model 110 drop safe in the field.
  • Performance: The AccuTrigger’s main claim to fame is, well, accuracy! With a clean, crisp break and no creep, the AccuTrigger provides consistent performance from shot to shot that helps shooters build their muscle memory and offers reliable performance that enhances accuracy.

AccuStock

Pillar bedding is one of the most popular ways to offer rigidity in a rifle stock without a dramatic increase in weight. One of the more recent Model 110 innovations, the AccuStock pillar bedding helps increase rigidity in Model 110 stocks by molding the stock around an aluminum rail system. This increases the rigidity of the stock by providing consistent contact between the aluminum chassis and the action, helping to reduce movement of the action and barrel, and enhancing accuracy potential in the rifle.

AccuFit

The first thing you have recognized on the Model 110 for years is the AccuFit adjustment system. Introduced in 2018, the AccuFit system is one of the most consequential Model 110 innovations to help make this rifle a platform for all hunters and shooters. Featuring adjustable length of pull and comb height, AccuFit allowed anyone to get a custom level fit in their rifle with just a few tools and a little time on the bench. This ability to get a custom fit made 110 rifles equipped with AccuFit more comfortable to shoot, and a more comfortable rifle often means a more accurate shooter.

Next Gen Innovations

The newest Model 110 innovations are some of the best ones we’ve added yet. These new rifles are loaded with upgrades, enhancements, and features that make them the most user-friendly factory rifles yet. The next generation 110 is a rifle that’s truly built for everyone, thanks to a whole host of new upgrades and improvements.

  • AccuFit V2: The next generation of AccuFit, AccuFit V2 makes adjusting your fit easier than ever. No more dealing with tools and spacers. Everything can be done with the turn or press of the Quick Set Dial (QSD). With AccuFit V2, the perfect fit is attainable within seconds.
  • Improved bolt: Extraction, feeding, and ejection have been key areas of feedback from Model 110 users, so we made some changes. The new Model 110 bolt features dual ejectors and an improved extractor design. The result? Smoother feeding, stronger ejection, and more reliable extraction on every shot.
  • Stock ergonomics: Our newest stock design incorporates the latest ergonomics favored by both hunters and target shooters. A more vertical pistol grip gives you comfort both before and during the shot, with thumb shelves present on both sides for a more comfortable grip at rest. Soft overmold texture has been added as well for additional purchase when holding the rifle.
  • Attachment enhancements: Attachment points are plentiful on the new Model 110. M-Lok panels, ARCA rails, threaded barrels, one-piece rails, and threaded bolt handles all allow you to customize and accessorize your rifle to fit your usage perfectly.
  • Full line barrel threading: It’s a popular question that’s often asked, so we’ll make sure to answer it now. Yes, your new 110 is threaded! Every new Model 110 rifle will be threaded, ensuring compatibility with suppressors and muzzle brakes from the start. No more settling for a different rifle because it has a threaded barrel, now every 110 will come with the option to allow you to hunt and shoot how you want.
  • Magazine updates: Our magazines have also gotten a bit of a facelift. They are now built from a high-grade nylon polymer, which helps with smoother bolt feel and improved feeding. They’re durable, reliable, and will make running your new Model 110 feel that much better.

From the original 1958 model to the new generation of today, Model 110 innovations have continued to push us forward. The look and feel may have changed over time, but the same great accuracy and precision have remained. The new Model 110 isn’t just a modern redesign of an iconic rifle; it’s honoring heritage and legacy for accuracy, dependability, and innovation. Each Model 110 has built upon the last, and the next generation will leave its mark for a new generation of hunters, target shooters, and firearms enthusiasts.
